I illustrated the front cover for a re-release of Noel Streatfield's children's classic The House in Cornwall. Available through Manderley Press, this is a rip-roaring adventure set at the turn of the second world war.
I had great fun trying to decide on what an appropriate plane would be for the cover. It needed to have been made in the right time period, used by both government and civilians and capable of carrying an unspecified amount of passengers, but probably about 12. I settled on a De Havilland Flamingo, a British made plane first made in 1938 (the novel was first published in 1939), flown by the RAF and capable of carrying 12-17 passengers. Just the type of plane to be commandeered by, well, I won't spoil the book.
The heroes of the story!
The endpaper design.
