Illustrated Maps for a Cornish resort
A series of illustrated maps for Retallack Resort and Spa
Cornwall is one of the biggest holiday destinations in the UK, with millions of people visiting each year. I was super excited when Retallack Resort & Spa, got in touch to commission some illustrated maps of their park.
The brief called for bright & fun maps, populated by characters enjoying the amenities of the resort. They also wanted a nice hand-rendered feel to them, which is perfect for me. Althought the final maps needed to be digital, to allow them to be enlarged as needed, I started as I always do with pen and paper, sketched the elements out and brought the drawings into Illustrator to finish them up.
Located right in the centre of Cornwall, Retallack is a convenient place to base yourself for a holiday, with easy access to all Cornwall's sights and attractions. This location map was especially fun to illustrate as I got to show off some of the best bits the duchy has to offer.
One of the (in my opinion) best things at Retallack is their amazing total-wipeout style Aqua Park. It's like an adventure playground and bouncy castle rolled into one and it's ON WATER. I can't wait to have a go on it one day.
The illustrations are to be used online, in print and also on large format wayfinding signs around the park.
